Day Care and Pre-school

Day care is available for children ages 1- 5 whose parents work, study or are actively looking for employment. Children with special needs who need professional support are also eligible for day care services.
 
In Åmål, there are 11 state-run day care centres; seven in town and four in the surrounding rural area. Also, there are also two private day care centres and fifteen day care providers.
 
Each day care centre sets up its own goals and programs based on the national curriculum. There is close contact with parents and a focus on the development of programs based on the individual needs of the child.
 
The opening hours are usually 6.30 am – 6:30 pm.

Day Care Providers and Family Day Care
Family Day Care is an alternative where children go to the homes of day care providers. At the moment there are fifteen day care providers working in family day care in central Åmål and in Tösse. Each day care provider has a group of around five children.

Activities for children not enrolled in day care
 
Öppen förskola – Open pre-school - A good way to meet other parents and children. This is a drop in pre-school where the adult stays with the child. There is staff there who plan activities. No fee. For more information contact the Family Centre in Åmål.:

Kyrkans Barntimme - Children’s Hour – Held at the Swedish church 1- 2 times per week for ages 3-6 years old. You leave your child there. There is usually a small fee per term. Contact the church office for more information.
